Weddings In Nerja
Kevin and Annette were married in the most beautiful town of Nerja in southern Spain. Cobbled and mosaiced streets guide you past typical white walls before emerging into the town square. Flanked by the magnificent El Salvador Church and the Balcon De Europa, the walkway offers panoramic views of the Alboran Sea. I’ve always loved the expanse of the ocean and I cant help but summon images of Hiroshi Sugimoto’s seascapes. Nerja is an incredibly popular town, the ease of access and aura of traditional Spanish village is a huge draw for anyone looking to soak up the sun in a relaxed atmosphere. Locals greet you with customary enthusiasm and are particularly gracious when dealing with broken dialect and the use of strange tenses on my part.
The sense of community is increasingly felt on the wedding day itself. Those lining the square applaud the bride as she glides toward the church and the more inquisitive of the bunch join the back pews to catch a glimpse of the ceremony. Certain moments captured in this wedding epitomize why I love what I do; sincere and genuine displays of emotion. Whether that is between bride and groom, father and son or mother and daughter, when you take a photograph of something that is real, there is honestly no greater satisfaction. Family and friends are an incredibly important thing and in later life, it can become difficult to tell the male members of your family that you love them. The conversation goes something like this: “I love you dad” “Ok, I’ll tell your mother”. I hope in years to come these images will serve as not just a reminder of the day, but a genuine reminder of the love and affection felt between everybody present.
