The Connaught Wedding Photographer

Summer had the thermostat cranked up to the highest setting for this wedding a the Connaught Hotel, I was melting on the journey in, thankfully as long as you don’t care for getting your hair all frizzy – thankfully i have none – you can hover around the water feature at the front of the building and cool down pretty quickly. I don’t think the wedding co-ordinator got my joke about brides and hair frizz, I think she thought I was just dissing their cool water fountain. as an award winning London wedding photographer I get to photograph weddings and events in some of London’s best hotels, the Connaught certainly fits that category and is one of the best wedding venues UK has to offer! be sure to download the brochure. there were a few funny moments simply standing around outside the building. opposite is a very fine bag and suitcase maker which had people queueing up outside, they were trying to look cool as they were waiting to gain entry to this very exclusive shop, but it was about 35 degrees, no one looks cool standing in a line when it’s thirty five degrees. funny moment number two. one hotel guest pulls up and parks their car outside the Connaught front entrance, a Lamborghini, pretty cool, many impressed folk had a look, but didn’t exactly break a stride. next, someone pulls up in a mark one jaguar. suddenly people appear from nowhere to take pictures of it. It was like fancy top trumps. I’ll bring my Skoda next time, it’s a turbo, that’ll show em’.

Real Weddings at The Connaught Hotel

This wedding was an absolute riot, the images in the blog post are only what was safe to show. many people love pretty pictures, I’m one of them. but there is something about a party that kicks off that always gets me that little bit more excited. by the end of the day everyone knows that I’m the wedding photographer and is happy to let me into their conversations. I put this down to being calm and collected, people seem to warm to me quickly. so when the beers have been flowing and the dancing starts, there’s no reason for them to shy away from me, it’s how I’m able to get such expressive photographs without the guests feeling awkward in my presence. it’s why I think trust is so important, I’m there to take pictures that celebrate peoples personalities, not to make fools of them. people have to trust me, it’s a leap of faith, but I’m hopeful that you can see the pure emotions that people are expressing in my images, they trust me, and aren’t afraid to show how they really feel.

S&D at The Connaught

The Georgian room the Connaught. the Connaught is iconic in its own right, a hotel at the heart of London famed for its age and commitment to class, it’s one of the oldest five star hotels in the capital. originally called the Coburg and built in 1815, it was renamed in 1917 to the Connaught to make the name “less German”, one would have thought that in order to make everything sound a bit more English they would have renamed the street it sits on too, Carlos place. if you don’t fancy staying the night at the Connaught hotel, then you could always buy a three bedroom flat on the same street…for eight million pounds. boutique shops, art galleries, designer labels and café culture, Mayfair remains the centre of sophistication an luxury in London. mention the name anywhere in the world and people are sure to know to where you are referring, Carlos place runs between the equally famous Grosvenor square and mount street, bond street underground station makes this an easy access wedding venue if you’re coming in by train, maybe you fancy a stop off at buck house first, in that case green park station is only half a mile away too. the Connaught wedding photography by Liam Smith photography.

How I Photograph Weddings. My Approach

As a documentary wedding photographer, my job is to not only pay attention, but to interact, to talk and to understand. By being a part of your day in the fullest sense is how I’m able to tell such rich and layered stories. I discreetly capture a wedding by being fully immersed in it. I’m quite tall, but you won’t know I’m there. I think my portfolio is testament to my ability to blend in. My height and loud voice definitely come into their own when it’s time to wrangle the crowd for a group photograph. My work combines a number of styles and techniques to create my own unique way of documenting weddings. Some moments call for humour, which is where photojournalism comes into play, other moments call for tenderness, which calls for a softer, fine art approach. Being an excellent photographer requires a broad skillset and the experience to know when to deploy each one. My pictures capture your personalities, your bond and the relationship you share with your family and friends. I tell your story without the need for posing or recreating moments, my approach results in a genuine, and heartfelt visual narrative of your special day.
