My journey into becoming a destination wedding photographer has not only allowed me to combine my passions for photography and travel but has also introduced me to various traditions, customs, and landscapes, enabling me to grow both personally and professionally. The diversity in each destination’s aesthetics and ambience gives me a chance to expand my creative horizons, challenge my adaptability, and refine my craft.
One of the most exciting aspects of being a destination wedding photographer is the versatility each location demands. Moreover, destination weddings also offer a chance to capture the couple in a variety of picturesque settings beyond the ceremony and reception. Pre-wedding shoots, relaxed brunches, and post-wedding sundowners against the backdrop of a setting sun – these are unique opportunities to capture the couple and their loved ones in different contexts, adding more depth and dimension to their wedding story. Being a destination wedding photographer is not without its challenges – from navigating language barriers and adapting to different cultural norms, to managing logistical intricacies like scouting unfamiliar locations and adjusting to unpredictable weather conditions. Yet, these challenges are outweighed by the immense gratification I derive from delivering a stunning set of images that narrate a couple’s love story in a unique and beautiful location.

How I Photograph Destination Weddings: My Approach
As a somewhat exuberant wedding photojournalist it may come as a surprise that I am incredibly adept at going unnoticed, I blend in so well because I’m able to empathise with my subjects and know when to get close and when to remove myself. Some people need space, it’s my job to know when to be a photographer and when to be a human being. My role goes beyond merely observing; I engage and converse with guests. Fully immersing myself in your celebration enables me to weave intricate and multi-layered tales. I can photograph the essence of a wedding by being an integral part of it. Although I’m quite tall, you’ll hardly notice my presence and my portfolio undoubtedly showcases my knack for blending in. Fear not though, for when it’s time to rallying the crowd for a group photograph I’ve got my teachers voice nailed!
My work melds various styles and techniques, forging a distinct style, unique to me. When a moment is humorous I can call on my photojournalism skills and play with a moment compositionally; while tender moments call for a gentler, fine art touch.
