As a humanist wedding photographer, my primary aim is to encapsulate the unique essence that characterizes these ceremonies. Unlike religious weddings which have a broad appeal as the couple are united under the eyes of God, humanist weddings can be tailored to include whatever the couple desires, and are therefore deeply personal and customized to reflect the unique values and beliefs of each couple. They celebrate human love in its raw, beautiful form, focusing purely on the commitment between two individuals and what their relationship means to them and them only.
Photographing these ceremonies, therefore, demands a keen eye for detail and an understanding of the delicate emotional undercurrents that drive each moment. The absence of traditional religious rites means that each ceremony is a new adventure, a fresh canvas painted with the unique hues of each couple’s love story. I.e. you can never really predict what’s going to happen.
