A Timeless Dodmoor House Wedding: Embracing the Beauty of Black and White Photography
I’ve been obsessed with Caravaggio recently, my first love was art and I’m always drawn to the theatrics and sense of drama captured within renaissance painting. Chiaroscuro is one of my favourite things and that probably explains this black and white post. There’s an intense richness that comes from beautiful black and white photographs, it can capture something unseen and reveal to the world new layers of beauty. Yes it did rain all day, and that does lend itself to the aesthetic, but this wedding was not only classy, but full of pure joy, never before has a group of bridesmaids (what’s the collective noun for bridesmaids? A giggle? Yeah, let’s go with that, a giggle of bridesmaids) been so ecstatically happy for their bride and groom.
Dodmoor House: A Charming Wedding Venue in Northamptonshire
Dodmoor House is a family run wedding venue and an amazing location to shoot at for a wedding photographer Northamptonshire, a magnificent Grade II listed barn conversion which by all accounts is around four hundred years old. The exposed beams in the courtyard barn give tremendous character to the wedding ceremony shots, and large windows on both sides of the walkway makes for excellent side lighting for the brides dramatic entrance. I love weddings because it means I get to work with the county councils registrars, these ladies are awesome! so easy to work with, so friendly and are full of warmth and charm, they put couples at ease and make the whole thing look effortless (plus they let me stand where I like :))
A Memorable Wedding Day Filled with Intimacy and Emotion
At this juncture I have to mention the team at Dodmoor House who are absolutely magnificent. Transitions from rooms was seamless, the decor impeccable and each request was greeted with a smile, even whilst soaking wet, kudos! I love this wedding for so many reasons, but mostly for the intimacy. There were so many instances where hugs, hand holding and squeezes of family members resonated a very deep emotional connection between bride, groom, friends and family. It’s amazing how much emotion we carry in our hands. I would have loved to have recorded the readings from the ceremony for you lovely readers too, never before have I heard the word darling delivered so sweetly.
The Art of Black and White Wedding Photography: A Story of Romance, Humour, and Class
There is something wonderful about being able to change styles with photography, although the integrity of the documentary process is maintained, by shooting with different lenses and different apertures one can dramatically change the feel of a wedding. For this wedding, it felt apt for everything to be that little bit softer, embraces were gentle and loving and deserved a more delicate approach. I think I’ve captured a brilliant story in this collection, one that tells of romance with hints of humour and a serious amount of class. It’s not everyone’s taste to shoot an entire wedding in black and white, which is why I do deliver the images in colour as well. However on a rainy day in a barn, with as many chic details as this, it felt right, it felt true to the story. I always enjoy going back through this wedding, I think the narrative as a whole is one of the very best. Dodmoor is an incredibly popular venue, for more weddings in the county, check out Castle Ashby wedding photography, Dodford manor wedding photography and Crockwell Farm wedding photography too.
Look on and enjoy!
